HAZWOPER Training Courses

HAZWOPER Emergency Respose Planning and TrainingHAZWOPER courses are taught in accordance with OSHA regulations as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(q), as well as the guidance found in OSHA publication 3172, Training Marine Oil Spill Response Workers under OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard. We can customize the training course to fit your existing response plans and company terminology as appropriate

First Responder Operations Level
Duration of course is 8 hours.
Topics include:
• Basic hazard and risk assessment
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Hazardous material terminology
• Basic spill control and containment
• Basic decontamination procedures
• Operating and termination procedures
• Hazards and risks of oil spills
• Fate of spilled oil in the environment
• Recognition of oil spills
• Identification of hazardous substances
• Individuals roles in the oil spill response plan
• Recognition of when help is needed
Incident Commander Level
Duration of course is 24 hours
(three 8 hour days). Topics
include:
• Implementing the Incident Command System
• Overview of the Emergency Response Plan
• Hazards and risks of personal protective clothing
• Overview of the local emergency response plan
• Overview of the National Response Plan
• Basic hazard and risk assessment
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Hazardous material terminology
• Basic spill control and containment
• Basic decontamination procedures
• Operating and termination procedures
• Hazards and risks of oil spills
• Fate of spilled oil in the environment
• Recognition of oil spills
• Identification of hazardous substances
• Individuals roles in the oil spill response plan
• Recognition of when help is needed
HAZWOPER Refresher
Duration of course is 8 hours.
Topics may include, but are not
limited to:
• HAZWOPER Standard
• Chemical Properties
• Hazard Classification System
• Toxicology
• Hazmat Reference Material
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Decontamination
• Spill Response Techniques
• Site Safety Planning
• Incident Command System

Students must pass a written exam to receive a course completion certificate for all HAZWOPER courses.
